Primary Computing Curriculum Scheme of Work

Whole school approach to teaching Computing, Digital Skills and E-safety.

Digital Skills

Each year group has a core set of skills linked to Digital Skills and Media Creation as we feel this is just as important as Computing.

Computing

Computing skills are built upon year on year to ensure children learn key elements of coding including algorithms and decomposition.

E-Safety

Keeping children safe while using technology is vitally important. Our curriculum ensures children are taught key E-Safety skills across the years.

Time for a new Primary Computing Curriculum?

Need to re-write your Primary Computing Curriculum? There is an easier way. Our Computing Curriculum Scheme of Work has been tried and tested in several schools and includes easy-to-follow year group skills and how to evidence, whole school progression documents, and resources for each year group linked to each area.

We have focused on Digital Skills and Media Creation as being just as important as Computing and E-Safety. Why? Because we noticed that children were starting to lack digital skills, which are just as important as being able to code!

There are a range of lesson plans, with videos and easy to follow steps, to help any teacher achieve. All of these lesson plans are linked to the Primary Computing National Curriculum.

Training

Included is a CPD accredited online training platform to accompany the Curriculum Scheme of Work. As it’s online, staff will be able train at a pace and time that suits them. They can come back to that training at any time during the school’s subscription if they feel they need an update.

Computing Coordinators

Coordinators will have clear progression maps to show Ofsted and have clear guidance on evidence needed to show competency in each skill. This will allow coordinators to show impact during an Ofsted subject ‘Deep Dive’.

Progression Maps

As part of the Computing Curriculum Scheme of Work the school will get progession maps showing how each strand of skills in our Computing Curriculum Scheme of Work progresses from EYFS to Year 6.

Simple and Easy

Our Primary Computing Curriculum Scheme of Work has been tried and tested in several schools and includes easy-to-follow year group skills (including EYFS), lesson plans, resource lists, outcomes (and how to evidence these), and whole school progression documents for each year group and each area.

We have focused on three main areas - Digital Skills and Media Creation, Computing, and E-Safety. It is designed to be clear, simple, and easy to follow. The skills are set out for each year group but they aren’t tied to a term or a specific device so that teachers can link them to their own class topics throughout the year. There are a range of lesson plans, with videos and easy to follow steps, to help any teacher achieve. All of these lesson plans are linked to the Primary Computing National Curriculum.

The training platform to accompany the Curriculum Scheme of Work is CPD accredited. As it’s online, staff will be able to train at a pace and time that suits them. They can come back to that training at any time during the school’s subscription if they feel they need an update.

Our Computing Curriculum Scheme of Work covers all skills needed in Primary Computing for all year groups (most schemes miss out EYFS or just cover the Computing element) and it has been developed by us (35 combined years of teaching Primary Computing) after teaching the content in classrooms first. It has been developed and refined (and refined again!) over the past 3 years.
